Thanks to a stealth micro-team, great sponsors new and old, a stellar line up of international performers and tons of talented volunteers, Rizoma really out-did itself in 2011. A special thanks to John Waters for being the best guest we could hope for and to Pedro Almodovar and Alaska & Mario for giving us star power.

The Rizoma Festival is the evolution of a project I started in 2007 called "Los Encuentros Surrealistas". This year my cousin Sonia Martí came on board and baptized it with it's new name and... well... we really grew and everyone from age 18 to 81 had a blast.

In June we screened for the first time, in the Academy of Motion Picture of Spain, my first long-format documentary, "20 Años Amaneciendo, que no es poco." It's about the local cult classic "Amanece, que no es poco" (1989, dir. Jose Luis Cuerda), its unusual extended life thanks to dedicated fans, and the subsequent tourist route created by the government of Castilla La Mancha, where the film was originally shot.
As soon as I get a chance I'll post a 10 minute excerpt on the site. The doc was supervised and stars Jose Luis Cuerda himself as well as Jose Maria Barreda, the President of Castilla La Mancha, and several of the actors from the film, most of whom are household names here.

On October 19th I'll finally be debuting my fiction short film 22-M.
The film was shot in real-time the day of the prince of Spain's fairy-tale
wedding and so the party will be held in an actual palace-turned club in
downtown Madrid. If you want to come just send me an email and I'll send
you the ticket!
